Introduction
If you wish to configure an Orchid server running Windows to connect to your Hybrid Cloud environment, you will first need to set up WireGuard on your server to connect to the Hybrid Cloud VPN. This Knowledge Base article describes how to configure WireGuard to automatically connect to your Hybrid Cloud environment.
Requirements
To configure your Windows Orchid server for Hybrid Cloud access, you will need the following:
- Your Orchid server with access to the Internet
- A copy of the WireGuard Installer for Windows, available here
- A WireGuard configuration file (this will just contain the configuration file required for setting up this secure tunnel). The configuration file name will be wg0.conf, no matter the cloud site name. Please note, if you review the contents of the WireGuard configuration file, it will show the cloud site.
If you do not have a WireGuard configuration file, please open a ticket with our Support team at https://support.ipconfigure.com/.
Instructions
- Install WireGuard (latest version available) on your Windows server.
-
Copy the WireGuard configuration file (wg0.conf) onto the Orchid server and place it in the WireGuard folder (C:\Program Files\WireGuard).
-
Import the WireGuard configuration file (wg0.conf) into WireGuard and click activate.
-
Confirm the WireGuard service is running and is configured to restart automatically upon reboot.
- The final step for configuring the WireGuard VPN is to perform a graceful reboot. This will finalize the VPN connection.
- As WireGuard reports the VPN as active, the server is now connected to the Hybrid Cloud environment. To add the server to Hybrid, sign into your Hybrid Cloud Web interface as an Administrator. Under the "Servers" tab, click "Add Orchid Recorder VMS," then fill out the dialog window that opens. For the Server URL, use the name of the VPN script file; for this example, you will use the URL
http://your-orchid-server/.
Troubleshooting
If you are unable to access the Orchid server via the Hybrid Cloud environment, first make sure that the server's VPN tunnel is active. In a command prompt, run the command ipconfig, and search for a WireGuard (wg0) adapter. If this adapter does not have an IP address assigned to it, this indicates that WireGuard is unable to create a tunnel between the server and the Hybrid Cloud environment.
If WireGuard cannot connect to the Hybrid Cloud environment, there may be a network connectivity issue or a Windows Firewall rule issue. If you experience any issues connecting your Orchid server to your Hybrid Cloud environment, please contact our Support team for assistance.
