To limit the number of processors available to Windows Media Services, you will need to modify the registry. To do this follow these steps:

  1. Launch regedit.exe.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media
  3. Create a key called Platform.
  4. Select the Platform key and create a subkey called Threads.
  5. In the Threads key, create a DWORD value called NormalWorkerThreadsPerProc.
  6. Set the NormalWorkerThreadsPerProc value to 1.
  7. In the Threads key, create a DWORD value called IdleWorkerThreadsPerProc.
  8. Set the IdleWorkerThreadsPerProc value to 1.
